Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) announced today that all 50 monopiles for the 476-MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project in the German waters of the Baltic Sea have been successfully installed.
The monopiles were made by German company EEW SPC and transported and installed by Dutch marine contractor Van Oord. They have a diameter of between 8.75 and 9 metres (28.7 ft) and are 75 to 90 metres long.
Iberdrola will now proceed with the installation of the transition pieces which will be delivered by Spanish wind turbine towers specialist Windar Renovables. The installation of the wind farm’s internal cabling by Van Oord is scheduled for the end of 2023, according to a statement.
The 50-turbine Baltic Eagle wind farm is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2024. Earlier this year, Iberdrola agreed to sell a 49% stake in the project to Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, better known as Masdar.
