The US government on Thursday announced USD 72 million (EUR 67.7m) in funding for three sets of projects in the areas of wind energy research and technology development.
The Department of Energy’s (DoE) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) has awarded a total of USD 30 million to 13 projects focused on innovative manufacturing processes for wind turbine equipment. AMMTO will also provide USD 15 million to a project to innovate production of large, metallic components for offshore and onshore wind energy and hydropower.
DOE’s Wind Energy Technologies Office at the same time awarded USD 27 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 15 projects seeking to reduce costs and address deployment barriers for both offshore and land-based wind.
“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to deploying wind turbines that harness the clean power of wind, while at the same time ensuring the clean energy transition is built in America’s factories,” stated US Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.
The White House simultaneously announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between nine East Coast states and four federal agencies to enhance regional collaboration on offshore wind supply chain development. As part of these efforts, the states of Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island will develop sub-regional implementation plans to leverage each other’s existing strengths and fill high-priority gaps.
The White House statement also included this week’s launch of the Atlantic Offshore Wind Transmission Action Plan.
