Eolus has begun the EIA process for its proposed 2GW Wellamo floating offshore wind project in the Bothnian Sea between Finland and Sweden.
Eolus Finland is planning the Wellamo offshore wind power project off Satakunta, about 90 km from the Finnish coast.
The production area of approximately 1000 sq km is located in Finland’s exclusive economic zone.
The project is planned to build 70 to 100 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 15MW to 30MW.
The total height of the wind turbines will be up to 360 metres above sea level and the turbines are primarily designed to be built on floating foundations.
In addition to wind turbines, cables between wind turbines, the required number of offshore substations and submarine cables from the production area to shore will be built in the sea area.
The EIA procedure examines two different placement options for wind turbines (VE1 and VE2).
In addition to the wind turbine placement options, seven different route options (VEA-VEE) for the placement of submarine cables and four different shore transmission line implementation options (WeA-WeD) will be examined.
The project’s transmission line route options are located in the areas of the City of Pori, the City of Ulvila, the Municipality of Eurajoki, the City of Rauma and the Municipality of Pyhäranta.
The EIA programme’s public notice will be until 23 November 2023.
