Spanish utility group Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) has been successful in a tender for forest land areas in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg where it plans to install wind farms of up to 200 MW in total.
The company announced on Tuesday it has signed a contract for three sites totalling 790 hectares (1,952 acres) with Forst Baden-Wuerttemberg (ForstBW), the manager of forest areas in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Iberdrola Deutschland will use the land to erect 25 turbines to create three wind farms with a combined capacity of between 170 MW and 200 MW. The plants, when operational, are expected to generate enough electricity to meet the electricity consumption of around 112,000 homes annually.
Iberdrola’s German unit said it will now start working on the three projects’ detailed planning.
According to the statement, ForstBW has made available around 3,000 hectares of land for wind power generation in tenders held since the start of 2021.
