Spanish renewables developer Capital Energy said on Wednesday that it has signed a contract with Germany’s Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) to purchase 100 MW of wind turbines for its first wind projects in Spain’s Aragon region.
The agreement includes the purchase of 18 pieces of the N163/5.X model turbines, which will be delivered in the first half of 2025. Capital Energy has also signed a full after-sales service agreement with the German wind turbine maker for the maintenance of these machines over a period of 20 years.
Capital Energy will use the turbines to assemble the Las Mareas I and Las Mareas II wind farms, each of 50 MW. The company expects to invest around EUR 90 million (USD 99.9m) in these projects and start construction in the town of Mequinenza in March 2024.
The two Las Mareas wind farms will be capable of generating approximately 300 GWh of electricity each, once in operation.
The contract represents Capital Energy’s first order from Nordex. The company previously purchased turbines from Siemens Gamesa and General Electric for its wind energy projects in Spain.
