German renewables developer BayWa r.e. AG has obtained environmental approval for a 54-MW wind farm project in the Trikala regional unit of northwestern Greece.
The permit was awarded by the General Directorate of Environmental Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week.
To be installed by BayWa’s subsidiary Boreads Wind, the proposed wind farm will be located in the Malakassi and Hasia municipal units of Meteora municipality, Thessaly. The plant will be equipped with nine Vestas V150/6.0 MW turbines with hub heights of 125 metres (410 feet). A specific timeline for the wind farm’s commissioning was not available.
BayWa r.e. has been operating on the Greek market since 2013. Local media reports state that the German firm has more than 1.3 GW of solar projects in operation and under development in the country, as well as over 300 MW of wind schemes. Earlier this year, the company expanded its solar business in Greece by launching solar trading activities.
