UK’s Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd has secured planning permission to set up a 49.9-MW solar farm with a co-located 60-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Northumberland, England, the firm announced on Thursday.
The facilities, known as the Broadway House Solar Farm and Battery Storage Project, will located at a former open cast coal mining site in Bedlington. Once built, the solar farm will combine power generation with agriculture as sheep will be allowed to graze, the UK solar and storage specialist said.
The Broadway House is the Bluefield’s third solar project in Northumberland and the first in that county to feature a co-located BESS. The previous two projects, 49.9-MW Burnt House Solar Farm and the 49.9-MW Low Horton Farm, were approved last year.
Bluefield Renewable Developments is part of UK solar sector player Bluefield Group.
