Brazilian power utility Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BVMF:CPLE6), better known as Copel, plans to build 4.5 MWp of solar plants next to substations to generate energy and offset a portion of its own consumption.
The utility will use a bidding process to award the construction of the 2.6-MWp Umuarama, the 1.4-MWp Arapongas, and the 0.7-MWp Paranacity photovoltaic (PV) parks.
Once up and running, the trio should be capable of producing clean electricity volumes equal to the power demand of 5,000 residential customers.
From a technical point of view, these PV parks are unique in Brazil, the company said and explained that they will allow it to control a number of essential parameters of the interconnection between the solar panels and the substation, such as voltage and power factor.
