Chinese photovoltaics (PV) company GCL System Integration Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002506) announced on Thursday it has formally launched the 10-GW first phase of its 20-GW N-type solar cells factory in Wanzhi district, Wuhu City.
GCL SI said that the USD-1.12-billion (EUR 1.02bn) facility complements and vastly bolsters the existing supply chain, adding scalability. Production at the site is underway and its output is expected to be gradually ramped up until full capacity is reached in the final quarter of the year.
The company noted that once this project is fully completed, N-type high-efficiency cells will account for 87% of its cell production capacity. GCL SI is also conducting research and development (R&D) activities in connection with large-scale N-type modules. It noted that the current efficiency of its N-type panels exceeds 22%.
The GCL Group company has established itself as a fully enclosed PV industrial chain engaged in everything from silicon materials, wafer and cell production to module manufacturing and energy storage system integration, it pointed out.
