The Pear: less is more
The Pear, a name that stands for “Personal Electric Automotive Revolution,” is Fisker’s latest creation. With a starting price of £24,200 before federal tax incentives, it’s a vehicle that’s poised to make the electric vehicle segment very interesting indeed. Providing that the promised price stays put until the vehicle is launched sometime in 2025 – courtesy of recent delays caused by supply issues.
What’s so special about the Pear? Well, it’s not just the fruit of Fisker’s imagination. The car is built on the company’s SLV-1 platform and manufactured using the Steel++ development process, which, though shrouded in mystery, promises 35% fewer parts than other electric cars in its class.
Pear’s design isn’t as revolutionary as Fisker wants us to think, but it is very interesting. With a wraparound windshield, sculpted exterior, and futuristic LED lighting, it’s a pretty good deal for a vehicle under £24,000. And let’s not forget the “Froot,” Fisker’s unique take on the frunk (front trunk), which adds a touch of whimsy to the design.
But the Pear’s not just about looks. It’s got some clever tricks up its sleeve, like the ability to carry six passengers with a front bench seat variant and a “Houdini Trunk” for easier loading and unloading. And for those who like to lounge, there’s even a “Lounge Mode” for maximum comfort.
The only catch? You’ll have to wait until mid-2025 to get your hands on one. But hey, good things come to those who wait, right? Fisker Ocean seems to be the proverbial proof in the pudding – delayed a few times, very slow production at the moment, and yet those who manage to get one feel like they’ve won a lottery.
Ocean Force E: more is better
If the Pear is Fisker’s answer to urban electric mobility, the Ocean Force E is their adventurous counterpart. This special package for the Fisker Ocean SUV is designed for those who love off-roading and want to explore beyond the asphalt.
The Ocean Force E is not just another SUV with limited off-road capabilities. It’s a “beast,” according to Fisker, with generous ground clearance, specific shock absorbers, reinforced 20-inch wheels, and all-terrain tires. And to protect the underbody, there’s even a titanium plate.
The package adds more than just rugged looks. It’s designed to withstand the “abuse” of excursions, with rubber mats, more handles, and rings to hold the load. And with a power close to 550 hp, it’s not just about looking tough; it’s about being tough.
Developed by Fisker’s specialized Magic Works division, led by a former professional rally driver David King, the Ocean Force E is set to be available in the fourth quarter of 2023. It’s a bold move into a segment that’s been dominated by gasoline options, and it’s a welcome addition to the growing list of electrified alternatives.
Fisker knows that there’s a better way than following the trend – setting it.
