Global Wind Projects, a provider of onshore wind turbine crane and installation services, announced today it has started work on its first offshore wind project at Scotland’s Port of Dundee.

The company has been awarded a contract by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for the pre-assembly of 54 offshore wind turbine towers for the 450-MW Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm, which is being developed by EDF Renewables and Ireland’s ESB off the east coast of Scotland. Port of Dundee is the assembly and marshalling facility for the wind project.

Global Wind Projects has been contracted to provide cranes, installation personnel as well as ground transport, in partnership with Forth Ports. It has deployed 90 personnel to execute the contract, with more than 30 new jobs created.

Global Wind Projects was created in April 2021 by Global Port Services, part of energy sector service group Global Energy Group. Global Port Services has depots in Aberdeen, Invergordon, Port of Nigg, Glasgow and Northern Ireland.

Matthias Haag, project director for NnG, said that Global Wind Projects’ involvement demonstrates a commitment to ensure that the Scottish supply chain benefits from the project.

Neart na Gaoithe recently erected its first turbine.
