Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE), or PGE, have been granted a seabed area permit to build an up to 210-MW wind farm in Polish waters.
The permit, issued by Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure, concerns a site covering about 17 sq km (6.6 sq miles) of seabed area and is located 32 km (19.9 miles) off the Polish coast in the Baltic Sea, the joint venture partners said on Wednesday.
Area 45.E.1 is adjacent to the 2.5-GW Baltica offshore wind project that PGE and Ørsted are currently working on. Due to the proximity to what will become Poland’s largest offshore wind farm, the developers will be able to achieve technical synergies and better use of the seabed area. Thus, they will ensure increased power generation, said Wojciech Dąbrowski, president of the management board of PGE.
The new wind farm will be dubbed Baltica 2+.
PGE and Ørsted submitted a joint application for the additional seabed area adjacent to the already developed 320-sq km site of the 2.5-GW Baltica in February 2022.
