Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY) has been contracted by Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) to supply inter-array cables for the 2,852-MW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the UK.
The Italian cable manufacturer said on Monday it will be tasked with designing, manufacturing, supplying, terminating and testing an inter–array submarine cable system that will connect the turbines and the offshore converter station. The deal covers about 280 km (174 miles) of 66 kV inter-array cables, or about 50% of the overall wind farm’s requirements, to be delivered in 2026.
The submarine cable cores will be produced at Prysmian’s facilities in Montereau and Gron, France, while the armouring and assembling processes will take place at the plant in Nordenham, Germany.
The contract is subject to Ørsted taking a final investment decision on the project. It follows a 2018 agreement that Ørsted awarded to Prysmian for inter-array cables at the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm.
Hellenic Cables will also supply inter-array cables for Hornsea 3. Earlier this year, Danish group NKT A/S secured a contract to deliver onshore and offshore export cables for the Hornsea 3 project.
