Offshore services provider Subsea7 (OSL:SUBC) and German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK) will partner to study and develop solutions for offshore hydrogen production.
Subsea7 said in a Linkedin post on Tuesday that the companies have signed a memorandum of understanding, under which they will explore the technical and commercial aspects of green offshore hydrogen production, including pilot and commercial-scale facilities, as well as bottom-fixed and floating options.

EnBW will draw on its wind farm design and operational expertise, while Subsea7 will focus on subsea infrastructure research and integration of hydrogen production systems.
The companies will seek to establish the levelised cost of hydrogen and the technical and economic potential of the different offshore hydrogen production solutions.
Stian Sande, strategy director energy transition at Subsea7, commented that collaboration between developers, operators, contractors and technology providers is important to progress a nascent industry.
