Danish and German transmission system operator (TSOs) Energinet and 50Hertz have commenced the tendering process for key equipment for Bornholm Energy Island, Energinet said today.
Germany and Denmark are cooperating on the project, which will see Bornholm become a collection point for 3 GW of offshore wind and supply clean power to both countries.
HDVC equipment for the stations in Germany and Denmark will be tendered as one joint contract, Energinet said, adding that it has been sent to prequalified vendors today. The procurement of HVDC circuit breakers has been designed as an option in line with market feedback.
The Danish TSO explained that market dialogue with interested suppliers have shown that tendering for the project should start early so that the partners can reserve production capacity and maintain the project timeline.
50Hertz has already contracted HVDC cables supply for Bornholm Energy Island. Energinet has launched the tender of one contract for production of cables as well as offshore installation. Tenders for more contracts are upcoming.
Energinet said construction of its part of the project can begin following the receipt of an environmental permit and completion of archaeological excavations in 2025.
