Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) has connected its first renewable energy project in Peru, the 135.7-MW San Juan de Marcona wind farm, to the country’s national grid.
The Spanish renewables company announced the milestone on Thursday, saying it had invested around USD 180 million (EUR 163.8m) to build the wind farm.
San Juan de Marcona, located in the department of Ica, consists of 23 Nordex wind turbines of 5.9 MW. It is estimated that the facility will produce 608 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 478,000 homes in Peru.
The wind farm’s construction, which started in April 2022, was completed in 19 months. Now online, the Peruvian wind farm has expanded Acciona Energia’s footprint in South America, where its operational portfolio exceeds 1,100 MW, the company added.
