AES Argentina, a unit of US power utility group AES Corp (NYSE:AES), will invest USD 90 million (EUR 83.4m) to expand one of its two wind farms in Argentina, local media reported on Thursday.
The power generation company, which acknowledged the media reports on Twitter, will add nine turbines to the Vientos Bonaerenses wind farm to raise its capacity to 153 MW from today’s 99.75 MW.
The Nordex-Acciona wind turbines will be used in the expansion project, according to multiple reports.
The Vientos Bonaerenses wind farm, formerly Energetica wind farm, is located in the province of Buenos Aires. It is AES Argentina’s first wind farm, commissioned in early 2020, followed later that year by Vientos Neuquinos in Neuquen province.
The wind farm expansion project is announced as AES Argentina celebrates 30 years of presence in the country. Besides the two wind farms, the company also operates thermal and hydroelectric plants in Argentina.
