The government of Bahrain has received a single bid in a tender for the remediation of a landfill site planned to host a 100-MW solar park near the Kingdom’s capital city.
The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) of the country has opened the bids in response to a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the job on Thursday, official documents show. According to the filing on the Bahrain tender board website, Turkey-based Goksin Construction Ltd is currently the sole bidder for the project at the Askar landfill, having placed an offer worth BHD 12 million (USD 31.9m/EUR 29.7m).
The winner in the auction will be tasked with the design and construction of a landfill gas extraction and treatment system as well as with land remediation and the development of gas and leachate management systems. The award concerns a 2-sq km landfill site to be prepared for the solar farm.
The photovoltaic (PV) park is planned to be located at a waste disposal site near the capital Manama, in the country’s Southern Governorate. It will be executed under the independent power producer (IPP) model.
