German renewables company Baywa r.e. AG said today its subsidiary ECOwind is selling a 26-MW wind farm in the Austrian Alps which has been in operation since last summer.

The buyer is Austrian energy service provider Kelag AG.

Located east of the city of Klagenfurt, Steinberger Alpe and Soboth is the first wind farm in the province of Carinthia. It consists of eight wind turbines that generate around 60 GWh of clean power annually. This is enough to cover the electricity consumption of about 13,000 Austrian households.

The facility was built within a few weeks.

Danny Guethlein, a board member at Kelag, commented: “In Carinthia, electricity generation from wind energy is developing into an important pillar for the year-round supply of electricity from renewable sources. By building more plants, we can strengthen our independence from fossil fuels and, together with our partner BayWa r.e., contribute to climate protection.”

Steinberger Alpe and Soboth is not BayWa r.e.’s first renewable energy project in Austria. Its wholly-owned subsidiary ECOwind built a 24.5-MWp floating-PV plant in Grafenwoerth, Lower Austria. The facility was commissioned earlier this year.
