Cube Green Energy, a renewables platform launched by US private equity firm I Squared Capital, has announced the acquisition of operating onshore wind and PV solar assets with a combined capacity of about 125 MW across Europe.
The portfolio of assets comprises 12 projects located mostly in Germany and France. With the new addition, Cube’s overall installed capacity of operating assets now stands at about 150 MW, according to a recent statement.
The acquired power generating facilities have repowering potential of over 300 MW, with the development work on turbine replacement already well underway. Once repowered, the project sites will produce enough clean energy to power over 200,000 households in Germany and France. In addition, the company also plans to hybridise the repowered wind farms with solar and utility-scale battery storage capacity.
Launched in late 2021, Cube Green Energy is an independent power producer (IPP) and developer focussed on the repowering of onshore wind farms and deployment of PV and battery storage solutions. About a year ago, it bought three German onshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 28 MW.
