Dajin Offshore has been selected as the preferred supplier of foundations for the 1.6-GW Nordseecluster — the offshore wind energy cluster that RWE AG (ETR:RWE) and Northland Power are planning to build in the German North Sea.
The Chinese equipment manufacturer will supply the foundations for all 104 offshore wind turbines of the cluster, RWE said on Friday.
The finalisation of the main contract is expected to take place in the coming months, said Northland Power’s managing director of the Nordseecluster Benjamin Miethling.
The delivery of the turbines depends on the final investment decision for the two phases of the initiative.
The first foundations for the 660-MW initial phase of the project are expected to be installed at sea in 2025. A total of 44 foundations will be set up in this phase which is planned to reach commercial operations in early 2027.
Foundation installation works on the second phase with a capacity of 900 MW should begin in 2027. The commercial operation stage for this part of the cluster is expected at the beginning of 2029.
“This is the next important milestone on our way to delivering this 1.6-gigawatt cluster. When the Nordseecluster becomes fully operational at the beginning of 2029, it will generate enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of 1,600,000 German households annually,” commented Sven Schulemann, RWE’s Managing Director of the Nordseecluster.
In April, RWE and Northland Power selected Hellenic Cables SA to supply cables for the wind cluster while Vestas emerged as the preferred turbine supplier about a month earlier.
