German railway company Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of three wind farms with an installed capacity of 60.7 MW.
The contract with Centrica Energy Trading has a term of two years and involves the supply of about 70 GWh of renewable electricity annually to Germany’s national railway operator. Supply will start in January 2024.

The deal with Centrica comes on the heels of several supply agreements signed by Deutsche Bahn in recent months. These include a 50-MW PPA for the offshore wind farm Trianel Windpark Borkum I and a deal for 20 MW from the He Dreiht wind farm project in the North Sea. A third agreement envisages the supply of about 18,000 MWh annually from a solar park in northern Germany.
At present, Centrica Energy Trading manages around 2,500 MW of solar and wind resources in Germany and plans to further expand the portfolio.
