US utility Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) announced that the first eight monopile foundations for its 2.6-GW Coastal Virginia Wind (CVOW) project have been successfully delivered to the Portsmouth Marine Terminal.
Fabricated by EEW SPC, those structural elements are the first of 176 to be delivered and staged in Portsmouth. They will remain at the terminal until installation works kick off in the spring of 2024, Dominion said in a recent statement.
CVOW, described as the largest offshore wind project under development in the US, is designed to produce enough electricity to power 660,000 homes. Last month, the project obtained a final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and is now awaiting the latter’s Record of Decision in the coming days.
The site is expected to be finalised in 2026.
