EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) has increased the capacity of the Alta da Coutada Wind Farm to 187 MW from 165.6 MW, Portuguese utility EDP (ELI:EDP) said today.
Prior to being over-equipped, the wind park was already EDPR’s largest in Portugal. With the new 21.6 MW addition, the facility will now be capable of generating more than 420 GWh of clean energy, enough to power 130,000 households.
The company added six new wind turbines to Alta da Coutada, which are expected to boost its annual production by 12%. The wind farm complex is located in Serra da Padrela, northern Portugal.
“By installing more wind turbines, we are providing more clean energy to the grid in a faster way, without the complexities associated with developing new projects,” said Duarte Bello, EDPR’s COO for Europe and Latin America.
