Portuguese renewables company EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) has been given the go-ahead to commence operations at an 11.38-MW/13.8-MWp photovoltaic (PV) farm in Spain.
The renewable asset is part of Spain’s inaugural wind and solar power hybrid facility. The 25,000 solar bifacial panels were installed adjacent to the 14.5-MW Cruz de Hierro wind park in the municipality of Santa Maria del Cubillo, central-western province of Avila.
The new PV system was implemented through EDPR’s subsidiary Parque Eolico Altos del Voltoy.
The hybrid plant should be capable of generating more than 58 GWh of clean electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of around 17,000 local households.
EDPR noted this is the second hybrid plant it has up and running in the Iberian Peninsula, following a 19.4-MW facility in northern Portugal.
Overall, the Portuguese company currently has 15 wind-solar hybridisation projects under construction and development in Spain, with a combined capacity exceeding 200 MW.
