Renewables developer Enel Green Power Chile has obtained a permit from the grid operator to start commercial operation of the 144-MW Renaico II wind farm situated in the Chilean region of La Araucania, the firm’s parent company has announced.
In a previous step, the wind farm successfully completed all performance and safety tests, and is now ready to begin feeding electricity into the grid, Chilean utility Enel Chile said.
Renaico II is made up of 32 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.5 MW each. Together, the machines will generate around 516 GWh of electricity per year.
The project required an investment of USD 177 million (EUR 162.6m), Enel Chile said in mid-2020 when it launched construction works. At the time, the wind farm was scheduled to start operation by June 2021.
