Engie has inaugurated its Plouarzel 1 wind farm in France after a successful repowering programme.
The repowering means the park will produce around 70% more electricity from its five wind turbines, reaching an annual production of nearly 12,000MWh compared to 7000MWh previously.
Four of the five turbines were refurbished to be installed in a new park in Europe, the fifth turbine used for spare parts.
The height of each of the units has been increased from 64m to 73.5m. The overall investment of €6.5m was carried by Engie Green.
Commissioned in 2000, Plouarzel 1 wind farm was one of the first wind farms in Brittany. An additional four turbines were added as part of the Plouarzel 2 project in 2007, bringing the site’s total installed capacity of 7.7MW.
The Plouarzel 2 wind farm is also the subject of a repowering project.
