Swedish wind project developer Eolus Vind AB (STO:EOLU-B) said Tuesday it has submitted an application for the Najaderna wind project off the coast of Tierp with a planned capacity of 1 GW-1.7 GW.
The offshore wind project is located 17 km off the shores of Tierp municipality, Uppsala County, both in the territorial waters and in Sweden’s economic zone. The permit application has therefore been filed with both the Land and Environment Court and the government.
The Najaderna wind farm will consist of up to 67 turbines, expected to generate 4 TWh–5 TWh of renewable electricity a year in a region that is projected to see a rise in power demand in the coming years, the developer said.
“Najaderna would provide an annual addition of up to 5 TWh of fossil-free electricity directly to industries undergoing transformation and new industries such as hydrogen production and manufacturing,” noted chief executive Per Witalisson.
“The water depth allows us to build closer to land with existing technology, keeping costs down as the electricity does not need to be transported such long distances,” said Eolus head of offshore Anna Lundsgard.
This is the third offshore wind project that Eolus has applied for this year after Vastvind in Kattegatt outside Gothenburg and Arkona off the southern coast of Sweden
