Greek power utility PPC SA (ATH:PPC) on Wednesday said its renewables arm has agreed to acquire a 216-MW pilot offshore wind project off the coast of Alexandroupolis.
PPC Renewables will acquire 100% of Thrakiki Wind 1 SA, which holds the generation licence for the project, under a deal with Copelouzos Group and Samaras Group. Financial details were not disclosed.
The fixed-bottom project falls into regulations for pilot implementation of offshore wind farms and is located in the offshore area of Alexandroupolis, which is designated for pilot offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 600 MW.
PPC said the parties will now apply their expertise to develop the pilot project quickly and efficiently.
The Hellenic Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) recently issued the first exploration licences to two projects in the Alexandroupolis marine area. The other licence was granted to Terna Energy’s Aioloki Provata Traianoupoleos MAE development.
Greece also recently released a draft version of its offshore wind energy development programme, designating 25 areas that could enable the addition of at least 12.4 GW of offshore turbines in the long term.
