Cable producer Hellenic Cables, part of Belgium’s Cenergy Holdings SA (EBR:CENER), has been awarded a contract by Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) to supply inter-array cables for the Danish developer’s 2.85-GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the UK.
Hellenic Cables said Thursday it has been tasked with the design, manufacturing, supply, termination and testing of 262 km of 66-kV inter-array cables, accounting for about 50% of the wind farm’s total requirements. It plans to start producing the cables in the final quarter of 2025 in its submarine cable factory in Corinth, Greece.
Ørsted is expected to take a final investment decision on the project in the current year.
Hornsea 3 will be built 160 km (99 miles) from the Yorkshire coast, and together with Hornsea 1 and 2 will form Ørsted’s Hornsea zone, which will have an overall capacity of more than 5 GW.
