Hellenic Cables, part of Belgium’s Cenergy Holdings SA (EBR:CENER), has won a contract worth about EUR 450 million (USD 488m) to deliver cable systems for the interconnection of the 927-MW Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, the cable manufacturer said today.
In particular, Hellenic Cables will supply two export cable systems, which will link the wind park’s western offshore substation to a new onshore substation close to Gnewitz in northern Germany.
The order comes from German transmission system operator 50Hertz, which said separately that, after an international tender, it has awarded two cable contracts for Gennaker’s connection to the grid. Besides Hellenic Cables, Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Submarine Cable (ZTT) has been contracted to supply and install the cable between the second offshore substation and the onshore substation, as well as the connecting cable between the two offshore platforms.
The wind farm is being developed by Skyborn Renewables.
Hellenic Cables said its own contract covers the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the two export cable systems, which will include 80 km of 220-kV submarine and 210 km of 220-kV underground cables. The systems are due to be delivered in 2027.
