Finnish renewable energy developer and producer Ilmatar Energy announced today it has kicked off construction works on a 186-MW onshore wind farm in Finland after taking a final investment decision on the project.
Situated in Pahkakoski in Ii municipality, the site will be equipped with 30 Vestas turbines, the delivery of which is expected late next summer. The wind farm, touted as one of the largest in Finland, is expected to become operational in the summer of 2025.
For this particular project, Ilmatar has chosen to apply the Transport, Crane and Installation (TCI)-contracting model that is popular in the US. It envisages the traditional full-scope original equipment manufacturer (OEM) delivery and installation to be split between the wind turbine maker and TCI contractor. In this case, transportation firm Silvasti will handle the TCI scope.
Once switched on, the Pahkakoski plant is expected to produce about 600 GWh of clean electricity annually, an amount equal to the needs of about 240,000 apartments or 30,000 electrically heated detached houses.
Last month, Ilmatar also broke ground on the 38.4-MW Korpilevonmaki wind farm in Sakyla, South-West Finland.
