Chicago-based energy group Invenergy LLC on Friday confirmed it had been successful in a Quebecois onshore wind power tender with a 291-MW project.
The company’s Pohenegamook–Picard–Saint-Antonin–Wolastokuk 2 (PPAW 2) wind project was one of eight to be selected by Canadian electric utility Hydro-Quebec as part of its Request for Proposals (RfP) launched in March 2023.
Invenergy developed PPAW 2 in equal partnership with Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est. Investment in the project is expected to reach approximately CAD 1 billion (USD 744.1m/EUR 687.0m), Invenergy said.
The wind farm will be situated in Bas-Saint-Laurent in Quebec province. Commercial operations are slated to begin in 2029.
On Friday, Hydro-Quebec announced the selection of 1,550 MW of projects in its wind power tender, with winning five developers set to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the utility. The bids were awarded at an average price of CAD 0.078 per kWh, excluding transmission or balancing.
