Finnish renewables investor Korkia and Chile-based wind and solar developer BIWO Renewables have set up a partnership with the aim of developing 1 GW of solar photovoltaic projects in Italy, a joint statement said on Thursday.
The partnership will target greenfield development and a diversified portfolio across locations and technologies, pursuing ground-mounted solar, agri-voltaics, and standalone battery projects in congested areas.
Their first projects are expected to reach the ready-to-build stage during the first half of 2024, Korkia and BIWO Renewables said in the brief statement.
According to Mikko Kantero, EVP of New Markets & Origination at Korkia, BIWO Renewables has actively participated in the development, construction, and operation of over 4,000 MW of capacity globally. BIWO’s website currently shows that the firm has 100 MW of solar and 300 MW of battery projects in advanced stages of development.
“We are delighted to form this new partnership with Korkia in Italy. It will allow us to keep expanding our operations in Europe, as well as strengthen our role in driving the energy transition for a greener and more sustainable world,” Juan Bonilla , CEO of BIWO Renewables, said in the prepared statement.
“We are also excited about entering yet another market, as Italy marks already the 8th country in Korkia’s diversified portfolio,” added Mikko Kantero.
