Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY) this week commissioned a 50-MW wind farm and a 30-MW solar plant in the region of Extremadura, western Spain, it announced on Thursday.
Investment in the wind project, named Merengue II, totalled around EUR 41 million (USD 44.7m), the company said. Merengue II features 11 wind turbines capable of generating 128 GWh of electricity per year.
The Puerta del Jerte solar project represented an investment of close to EUR 16 million. The plant will produce an estimated 62 GWh annually.
These projects gave Naturgy its second wind and second solar farm in Extremadura. With the new facilities, the utility now has 142 MW of operational renewables in the region.
Naturgy says it is currently shaping up 509 MW of solar projects in Extremadura, including the 300-MW Campo de Aranuelo, the group’s largest renewable energy initiative in Spain.
