China’s Envision Energy said today it has signed a deal to supply 1.67 GW of wind turbines for the Neom green hydrogen project which is currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.

The contract was awarded by US industrial gases company Air Products (NYSE:APD). Under its terms, Envision will deliver 171-6.5 MW wind turbines which should be generating electricity by 2026 to power the production of green hydrogen at the mega plant.

The Neom site, to be located at Oxagon in Saudi Arabia’s northwestern province of Tabuk, will have the capacity to produce 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, with commissioning slated to take place by the end of 2026.

The green hydrogen production at Neom will be powered by up to 4 GW of solar and wind capacity.

Significant progress has been made recently in the implementation of the large-scale green hydrogen project, marking major milestones in its development. The project reached a financial close at a total investment value of USD 8.4 billion (EUR 7.85bn), securing debt facilities of some USD 6.1 billion.

In addition, Germany’s Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co KGaA has been selected to supply the electrolysers for the 2.2-GW hydrogen-to-ammonia production facility.

The ammonia produced at the site will be procured exclusively by Air Products under a 30-year supply agreement.
