Danish power company Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) said on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the infrastructure division of Spanish construction group Acciona SA (BME:ANA) to work on solutions for floating wind foundations.
The collaboration will focus on the technological side of things. The companies will seek to industrialise Acciona’s concrete floating wind foundations and explore the use of carbon-neutral bio-cement, bio-concrete and other materials and solutions, with the aim of reducing the floating wind levelised cost of electricity (LCoE) and environment footprint.
Ørsted expects the partnership to establish a European supply chain to support its own pipeline of floating wind projects.
Huberto Moreno, CEO of Acciona’s construction division said: “This alliance will help us accelerate the development of our business as a supplier of offshore platforms for the wind power industry.”
Added Rasmus Errboe, Executive Vice President and CEO of Region Europe at Ørsted: “The goal of our collaboration with Acciona is to take floating wind from the innovation to the industrialisation stage. Ørsted intends to further grow our European floating pipeline, with Spain being a key market of interest for us.”
