OX2 AB (STO:OX2) and a unit of Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, have filed a permit application for the 3.1-GW Neptunus offshore energy hub project in southern Sweden which is planned to integrate hydrogen production.
The plan envisages installing up to 207 wind turbines with a maximum height of 420 metres about 50 km (31.07 miles) off the coast of the Blekinge region in the south of Sweden, OX2 said on Tuesday.

The wind energy hub is expected to generate some 13 TWh -15 TWh annually, which would be enough to cover the current total electricity consumption of the Blekinge and Skane regions.
The project also encompasses a proposal for offshore hydrogen production, targeting a capacity of up to 370,000 tonnes per year. An application for the permit for this segment of the project has also been submitted.
The developers plan to use oxygen, which is a byproduct of hydrogen production, to oxygenate the Baltic Sea in an effort to help restore marine life in the region of the hub.
Upon successful completion of the permit application process, OX2 anticipates commencing construction work in 2030.
The Neptunus offshore energy hub project is co-owned by OX2 and Ingka Investments after the investment arm of the Ingka Group took a 49% stake in the scheme last November.
The two companies are partnering on the development of six offshore wind projects in Sweden. In addition to Neptunus, these include Galene on the west coast, Triton in the south of Sweden, Aurora between the islands of Oland and Gotland and Pleione and Ran off the east coast of Gotland.
