UK-based energy services provider Petrofac Ltd (LON:PFC) and its technology partner Hitachi Energy have been awarded a second offshore wind connection project under a multi-year framework agreement with Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT, it was announced recently.
The contract is for the Nederwiek 1 transmission system in the Netherlands that is part of TenneT’s 2GW Program to deliver a number of 2-GW offshore grid connection systems in the Dutch and German North Sea.
The framework agreement, worth around USD 14 billion (EUR 12.6bn) and covering six projects, was announced earlier this year together with the award of the first project, Ijmuiden Ver Alpha.
Petrofac said last week its portion of the second contract is valued at around USD 1.4 billion. The company is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of offshore platforms and elements of the onshore converter stations. Hitachi Energy will provide its high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations offshore and onshore.
“The award of Nederwiek 1 continues our focus on the standardisation and harmonisation of design and execution that will be central to the ‘design one, build many’ philosophy of the 2GW Programme,” said John Pearson, Chief Operating, Energy Transition Projects, at Petrofac.
Further projects under the framework deal are expected to be awarded at intervals of about six months. The agreement also includes Nederwiek 3, landing at Geertruidenberg or Moerdijk, Doordewind 1 and Doordewind 2 at Eemshaven, and the German connection LanWin5 at Rastede.
