UK-based RES Group last week said it is expanding its offshore wind activities and announced plans for future project development in Norway and Australia.
The company intends to combine its local knowledge and skills with global offshore experience. In Norway in particular, it has joined hands with compatriot Zephyr Energy Plc (LON:ZPHR) to form a consortium to bid in one of the three areas of the Utsira Nord offshore wind tender with floating platforms in mind. Through the Siravind consortium, the duo is bidding for around 500 MW of the 1.5 GW available through the tender, in which bids are due by September.
Moving to Australia, RES is exploring several areas in Australian waters, particularly off the southern coast of Victoria in the Gippsland area, which was last year declared as the first zone for offshore wind development.
“Our focus is on how we can help build the local industries in both Australia and Norway to capitalise on the growth in the offshore wind sector, by supporting local production/fabrication and employment opportunities as we know these are the elements that will foster success,” said Rob Fradley, offshore commercial director for RES, adding that the company is well-placed to develop projects in both target markets.
