German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has contracted the use of two next-generation offshore wind installation vessels of maritime services provider Jan De Nul Group, the companies said today.
Under the exclusive and long-term charter, the world’s largest jack-up installation vessel, Voltaire, and heavy lift vessel Les Alizes will be used for turbine and foundation construction at RWE offshore wind projects and, if needed, for maintenance campaigns at its existing wind farms.
RWE said that the agreements allow it to secure vessel capacities in a tight market.
“Through this strategic partnership, RWE has taken a big step in securing the necessary installation vessels and services to deliver our large-scale offshore wind farms Thor and Hollandse Kust West VII, as well as further projects to come,” commented RWE Offshore Wind head Sven Utermoehlen. Thor and Hollandse Kust West VII are located in Denmark and the Netherlands, respectively, with foundation installation works for the Danish project to be carried out in 2025.
Les Alizes, built in 2023, has been chartered for more than five years.
Voltaire, built in 2022, has been chartered for more than four years, starting in 2027.
