German energy major RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has launched construction of its 54-MW San Severo onshore wind farm in the Apulia region of Italy, the group said on Wednesday.
RWE expects to invest around EUR 92 million (USD 99.4m) in this project, which will see it install 12 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.5 MW each.
The wind farm, located in the San Severo municipality, is slated to be commissioned by the end of 2024.
“Italy is one of our key markets for green growth. We at RWE are excited to start the construction work on a new major onshore wind project, with up to 55,000 Italian homes to be supplied annually,” said Katja Wuenschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
RWE announced its final investment decision (FID) for the San Severo project in July 2023. The same FID also encompassed the 54-MW Mondonuovo wind project in Apulia, which RWE plans to start building at the beginning of 2024, the company added.
