German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has successfully submitted its project proposal for a 257-MWp solar farm co-located with 255.4-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) for environmental evaluation in Chile, its filing shows.
The scheme, known as Los Durmientes, was accepted for consideration on by the environmental authority of the region of Antofagasta on Tuesday, according to documents posted on Chile’s project database Seia.
RWE plans to invest around USD 300 million (EUR 275.4m) to build the Los Durmientes generation complex in the region’s Antofagasta commune. The works will include the assemby of over 467,100 photovoltaic modules, the installation of an battery array for five hours of storage, and construction of support electrical infrastructure.
Construction is expected to begin in October 2025, subject to the outcome of the environmental assessment process.
Los Durmientes is RWE’s first renewable energy project in Chile to have completed and submitted the environmental impact statement (EIS). Its works in development include Berilo and Pita, both solar-plus-storage schemes, Girasol and Las Fresias wind power projects, and the gigawatt-scale Vientos Magallanicos green hydrogen and ammonia project.
