The Slovenian government will in September open a public call to distribute EUR 150 million (USD 163m) in funding under a recently-approved state aid scheme supporting the expansion of renewable energy, heat and energy storage.
The competition will be open to projects involving the production of electricity and heat from renewable energy facilities, as well as energy storage installations, the government said on Thursday. The funding scheme was earlier this month approved by the European Commission (EC).
The programme will provide direct grants of up to EUR 25 million per beneficiary, with the aid to be provided no later than December 31, 2025.
Specifically, the scheme will finance power production of hydropower, solar and geothermal plants of between 1 MW and 6 MW in size, provided that the capacity is fully owned by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Wind projects of between 1 MW and 18 MW will be also eligible, again if their owner is a SME. Co-generation, biomass and biogas projects will also benefit from the funding pot.
Slovenia is pursuing a goal of making renewables account for 27% of its total gross final consumption of energy by 2030.
