French energy group TotalEnergies (EPA:TTE) is set to team up with Brazilian state-run oil and gas company Petrobras (BVMF:PETR4) and local renewables developer Casa dos Ventos to explore renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen opportunities in Brazil.

The three companies have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore potential investments and offtakes in the fields of onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and low-carbon hydrogen in the country, the French firm said in a statement today.

Casa dos Ventos participates in the MoU through its joint venture with TotalEnergies. Casa dos Ventos Holding specialises in wind and solar energy in Brazil and has a 12-GW pipeline planned to be realised in the coming years.

Petrobras will be contributing to the potential joint initiative with its technical expertise in the energy sector. Earlier this month, the company which is actively investing in renewables, unveiled a plan for 23 GW of offshore wind capacity in the country as well as a partnership with WEG SA (BVMF:WEGE3) to jointly develop a 7-MW onshore wind turbine.

TotalEnergies itself will be providing multi-energy know-how and industrial approach to the partnership, the statement said.
