US solar trackers and racking solutions manufacturer OMCO Solar has announced the upcoming opening of a second factory in Alabama, its sixth in the United States, and a supply agreement with compatriot First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR).
The company invested over USD 10 million (EUR 9.4m) in the Alabama plant, building a facility spanning around 170,000 square feet (15,794 sq m). The factory will be equipped with four new manufacturing systems for OMCO Solar’s Fixed Tilt “Choice” and “Origin” Tracker solutions, OMCO said.
OMCO’s sixth US factory will bring the company’s total manufacturing capacity in the country to over 10 GW.
The new facility will be in close proximity to First Solar’s factory in Lawrence County, Alabama. The thin-film modules maker has selected OMCO to manufacture and supply the steel backrails for its Series 7 solar modules.
OMCO said that its new Alabama factory will make the Series 7 backrails thanks to multiple high-speed manufacturing systems designed specifically for this purpose.
