Canadian solar developer Westbridge Renewable Energy Corp (CVE:WEB) has been granted a permit for its Sunnynook solar plus storage project in Alberta, which is part of a larger portfolio being sold to Greece’s Mytilineos SA (FRA:MYH).
The power plant and battery energy storage system (BESS) approval was awarded by the Alberta Utilities Commission, Westbridge said on Tuesday, adding that its majority-owned subsidiary Sunnynook Solar Energy Inc had also secured a permit to build a substation for the proposed complex.
The Sunnynook project envisages the construction and operation of an up to 270-MW solar park with a battery facility of up to 200 MWh. The capacity will be installed in Special Area No 2, a rural municipality area in southern Alberta.
Applications for the project’s interconnection agreements are planned to be filed with the regulator in the last quarter of this year.
Sunnynook is one of the five solar projects that Westbridge agreed to sell to Greek industrial group Mytilineos last week. The schemes have an expected combined capacity of 1,410 MWdc and are scheduled to be completed in 2026-2027.
