Parkwind and its partners have defied autumn storms to complete installation of final towers and turbines at the 257MW Arcadis Ost 1 in the German Baltic Sea.
The final three machines of Parkwind’s 27-unit Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm were installed during the stormy autumn season in less than eight days.
Heerema Marine Contractors, Vestas and Parkwind worked closely together to install the hardware rapidly using a purely floating installation method, thus cancelling the need for jack-up operations.
This installation method was chosen to better cope with the particularly challenging seabed conditions in that part of the Baltic Sea.
“This is a huge feat of engineering by the three teams and together we have been able to redefine how offshore wind farms are installed,” said Parkwind co-chief executive Eric Antoons.
“Special thanks go to our colleagues on board the THIALF who have made this particular success possible.”
With all 27 turbines now installed, the teams will continue their offshore activities with cable termination and commissioning work.
Arcadis Ost 1, located north-east off the island of Rügen, will begin operations by the end of 2023.
