Zenith Energy Corp SRL, a subsidiary of Blacktree Capital Management, has initiated construction of the 101.2-MWp Dominicana Azul solar farm in the Dominican Republic, launching a project that will boast the Caribbean nation’s first battery energy storage system (BESS).
The Dominican national energy commission CNE said that the solar farm will have a BESS of 24.8 MW of power and 99.2 MWh of storage capacity. The Dominicana Azul plant will be capable of producing around 176.4 GWh of electricity annually for the national grid.
Zenith Energy will build the facilities in the Cabrera municipality. The firm secured a 25-year definitive concession from the CNE for the project earlier in December.
Highlighting the need to enhance grid stability and resilience, the energy commission confirmed it is evaluating several additional BESS projects and has granted provisional concessions for others.
