The recently-created joint venture between DP Energy and SBM Offshore intends to develop a floating wind project off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, with a total capacity of between 300 MW and 400 MW, it was announced on Wednesday.
The JV, called Nova East Wind Inc, plans to build the wind farm about 20-30 km off Goldboro but has not yet determined the exact site. Selecting the location will happen after relevant regulations and further engagement with key stakeholders and right holders, the company said in a statement.
“Our local team has been actively engaging with communities and stakeholders in Nova Scotia since 2021 and these groups will continue to be at the core of this project going forward,” commented Simon De Pietro, CEO of Irish renewables developer DP Energy.
The province of Nova Scotia pursues the goal of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. That is also when the project off Goldboro should be completed.
